Application of Epoxy Base Flooring

We provide a wide range of products of SikaFloor MultiDur systems which have excellent mechanical & chemical resistance and abrasion resistance. These features are the main reasons for choosing these systems, without this meaning that they lag behind in aesthetics and breadth of color choices. These systems are functional and durable in the long run. There is a choice between smooth, embossed and with the application of a final surface (non-slip), as well as a surface with two colors (mortar feel), in order to provide a solution that will satisfy the intended use, safety requirements and cleaning method.

1. Substrate Preparation

The substrate must be structurally stable, clean, free of loose particles, oils, dust and at least 28 days old. The surface is prepared by mechanical means (pelletizing, diamond disk, etc.) in order to form the appropriate roughness to achieve open porosity. This is followed by good cleaning with an industrial broom. Cracks should be opened, cleaned and plastered with Sikafloor 161/Sikafloor 151Quartz Sand epoxy mixture or Sikadur 31 EF 2-component epoxy paste.

2. Primer application

After completing the above work, the substrate is primed with the two component epoxy resin Sikafloor 161/ Sikafloor 151The two components (hardener base) are mixed using a slow mechanical stirrer until a homogeneous mixture is produced (duration ~ 3 minutes). Sikafloor 161 is usually applied with a short hair roller or spray gun.

  • Consumption: 0.35-0.55 kg/m^2.

3. Application of Self-leveling Epoxy Coating

Within 12-24 hours from the completion of the priming, the epoxy coating is applied with Sikafloor 264, which is a 2-component, colored, self-leveling high-strength resin mortar, without solvents, to protect concrete floors. The two components (A + B, base + hardener) are mixed using a slow-moving mechanical stirrer until a homogeneous mixture is produced (duration ~ 3 minutes). The quartz sand is then added with a mixing ratio of 0.95:0.95 (resin A + B to quartz sand C) followed by additional mixing for 1-2 minutes until a homogeneous mixture is produced. The application is carried out with a serrated spatula and / or a spatula guide with serration and adjustable height (butterfly). Finally, after the Sikafloor 264 is spread evenly, while it is still fresh, a pin roller is passed over it, so that any trapped air is expelled and  help it to self-level (self-leveling).

  • Consumption: 2-2.5 kg/m^2.
